On My Easel

Black Slate Painting

It has been a couple of months since I sat down in my studio to paint which is why I am really looking forward to this project. A friend who has a gallery that he now shares with two other artists is having a fund raising event for the food bank in the town of Meredith, NH. In the summer this is a vacation destination since the town shares a piece of Lake Winnipesaukee. I've only recently been exploring some of the downtown - I mostly go there to visit my friend's gallery. The main street runs parallel to the major road that takes you by the lake. My husband and I recently ate lunch at a winery in town that had a most interesting lunch menu.

The fund raising event will take place at the beginning of December. I chose two slates to paint on and am now looking for my subjects. I found one that I like and should choose another from the thousands of photos I've taken over the years. I have painted on slate once or twice before but the support I choose won't really matter. A true artist can paint on most any surface. I'll use acrylics and then my friend will spray them with a coating to protect the paint. Although it is a fund-raiser, the artists are paid a percentage when their paintings are sold. So, a fun event and I might even make a little money! Sounds like a win-win!  As I complete the paintings, I will post them here. Stay tuned!
